The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier.

The Newest Member of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Iconic Swiss-born French architect Le Corbusier has been collectively added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in late July 2016, under the title of ‘The Architectural Word of Le Corbusier’. Le Corbusier challenged the status quo throughout the 20th century, constantly striving for new techniques that broke away from convention in order to respond to the ever developing needs of modern society. His Modernist design work is world-renowned and 17 projects, spread across seven countries have been chosen to join the continuously expanding World Heritage List.

The listed structures span across the globe from Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, France and Germany, to India, Japan and Antigua. These projects were built over a period of 50 years, some of the more well known buildings of the Modernist movement include, Complexe du Capitole, Chandigarh (1952); House of Dr Curutchet in La Plata (1949), Argentina; National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo (1955); and the La Cité radieuse in Marseille (1945).

The World Heritage Committee stated that: “these masterpieces of creative genius attest to the internationalisation of architectural practice across the planet.”
