New York’s Youth in Pictures.
Photographer and Fashion Scout, Kevin Amato’s book ‘The Importants’ is a collection of over 200 photos that he has captured from his time living in the South Bronx.
This visual diary of his day-to-day life in New York combines commercial assignments together with regular snapshots that explore the relationship between youth street culture and fashion. Inspired by the likes of Larry Clark and Nan Goldin, Amato’s images display the raw and uncensored realities of the youth of New York, a city that is fast-paced and constantly evolving.
Amato’s evocative photography celebrates the young faces of New York and documents their thriving subculture, diversity and inclusivity. Hence the book title, ‘The Importants’, a collective name he coined for the group that he has much affection and admiration for.
