Maiko Takeda’s Atmospheric Reentry.
Japan-born designer Maiko Takeda produces intricate headpieces reminiscent of caterpillar fluff or ice fronds or cactus needles. Constructed from film, Perspex and silver, her collection, unveiled at the Royal College of Art fashion show in 2013, comprises coloured spikes attached to clear acrylic disks, all linked together with silver rings. The result is "an intangible aura" around the wearer that looks spiky and impenetrable. Singer Björk wore one of Maiko's pieces on the final leg of her Biophilia tour, something the young artist says has been one of her proudest moments.
