The Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York will be viewing historical moments by the lens of Steve Schapiro. The exhibition will be called Heroic Times and it will cover key moments of Americas history and culture. It will include black right activism like Selma, Montgomery Civil rights march, Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign and Andy Warhol's Factory.
Schapiro is being showcased because of his legendary documentation of the American history over a 6 decade career. Heroic Times will mostly be a collection of his works from the 1960’s and 1970’s, along with a number of unpublished works that have never been seen by the public. Assignments from publications Life, Time, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and other publications will also be showcased.
“I am always seeking the image that conveys the spirit of the person, at the same time, as a photojournalist, I want to create an image so that people will understand what news is being made.”- Steve Schapiro
