Decolonization.
The existence of the Angkor photo-festival carries with a strong significance beyond just simply taking and presenting photographs. It’s a platform for decolonizing representations of Asia. “One of our long-term aims is to help encourage the development of uniquely Asian approaches and perspectives to photography,” says Jessica Lim, director of the Angkor Photo Festival. “ This being said, the focus of the photo festival rests on Asian photographers and their creative approaches to the photographic medium. 40 photographers will show their work at the festival, 13 of which being contemporary chinese photographers. In addition to this, the festival will host photo book displays, artists talks, free portfolio reviews and workshops. The doors are open for the public from the 8th till the 18th of December 2018.
