Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams.
Text: V&A Museum in London has announced that they are preparing one of the largest and most expensive exhibitions on fashion, to take place in February 2019 . The retrospective will trace Christian Dior designs, from 1947 to present day, including Christian Dior’s own sketches, as well as the six artistic directors that followed him. This exhibition, which has been curated by Oriole Cullen, has borrowed from the Musée des Arts Décoratif in Paris to create a unique show that traces the fashion houses history, as well as particular relationship with Britain.
As Dior once said, "There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much. I love English traditions, English politeness, English architecture. I even love English cooking.".
Christian Dior is famous for revolutionizing women’s style, when in 1947, they released their first collection, which was quickly dubbed the “New Look”. Exemplified by the iconic bar suit, Dior made a stark shift from war time designs to an exaggerated feminine silhouette that has influenced fashion up until today.
