Balthus at Foundation Beyeler.
The Foundation Beyeler in Baselstrasse, Switzerland will be showing a retrospective of Balthasar Klossowski de Rola (1908-2001) also known as Balthus. He was seen as one of the twentieth centuries great artistic masters who’s work was controversial and multifaceted. The starting point of the exhibition will showcase Balthus’s monumental painting Passage du Commerce-Saint-Andre, from 1952-1954. This work is the introduction to the artists creative focus on dimensions of space and time. The exhibition will bring around 50 important pictures from every phase of Balthus’s work which ranged from; reality, eroticism, modern avant-gardes, post-modern and contemporary.
Balthus will be be on show at the Fondation Beyeler from September 2, 2018 to January 13, 2019.
