Soviet Sovereignty.
The immense span of the former USSR hides some curious examples of Soviet architecture, equal parts futuristic and historic.
Hotels, monuments, theatres and even government buildings are the subjects of this photo essay on the futuristic architecture of the Soviet era. Structures with odd angles and sci-fi shapes crop up all across the former Soviet Union - built predominantly between 1940 and 1980 they’re reminiscent of the USSR’s space race against the US. Some are abandoned though many still function according to their original purpose, including the Druzbha Holiday Center in Ukraine, built in 1984.
