DAYS & PLACES
Lost Wonderland by David Gray.
Abandoned theme park and ghostly landscapes in desolated China by Reuters photographer David Gray.
Like a Ghostly vision in the middle of cornfields, an abandoned castle stands, unfinished and abandoned. Located on an area of around one hundred acres, twenty miles northwest of central Beijing, sit the remains of what was supposed to become the biggest theme park in Asia. Developers finally decided to abandon the project in 1998. Leaving the remains of a palace, a castle and steel-beamed structures. Today the neighborhood farmers grow their crops around the site. No walls or security guards to secure the perimeter, only locals working on their recovered property.
Reuters’s photographer David Gray captures the haunting atmosphere on another chilly gloomy morning in Northern China.
