The world is always hungry for more Andy Warhol. Luckily, Artimage has released unpublished polaroids taken by Warhol of David Hockney for the artist upcoming 80th birthday on July 9th. In Warhol fashion, the shots are both staged and candids, giving a insight to the artists friendship.
The photos were shot between 1972-1974. In 1981, Hockney was featured in Interview Magazine. Warhol had met with Hockney and interviewed him and shot some photos. According to the Andy Warhol Foundation For The Visual Arts , Warhol journaled; “David Hockney came to lunch and Vincent [Fremont] did a video of him. And afterwards he went into the other room and did the interview. David’s cute, he really is magic.”
Warhol was known for carrying a polaroid camera during his career. With his passion for photography he collected a extensive amount of Polaroid shots of his muses, and people that he met. A book was published by Taschen called Andy Warhol.
